Many Americans who visit the Bahamas are left to wonder: Why would anyone fly so far
for a beach vacation when paradise is right next door?
The Bahamas consist of a grouping of 29 islands located just southeast of the United
States. Together they offer amazing sand and surf, and ever-warm and sunny days that
never seem to disappoint. And each location offers a different point of view.
Visitors to the capital city of Nassau, on the island of New Providence, can hop a
boat and explore a pristine beach, frollick with dolphins or feed rays and sharks.
Or they can head into town and explore the Bahamas' rich and colorful history, forged
by pirates such as Blackbeard, British and Spanish rule and even an American invasion.
Also a popular cruise-ship port, Nassau provides some of the best nightlife - and
duty-free shopping - in the Bahamas.
Freeport, the Bahamas' second most populous city, plays host to many modern and amenities-laded
beachfront resorts where guests can explore miles of soft sand and calm ocean waters.
Fine dining and shopping are also popular at this Grand Bahama Island destination,
mere minutes from guests' hotel, villa, condominium or apartment doors. Scuba divers
also often begin their adventures here, where they have quick access to one of the
world's most spectacular underwater cave systems.
Other popular Bahamian locations include Abaco Island and Marsh Harbour. Discover
the possibilities for relaxation and exhilaration on your next Bahamas vacation.
Guests at this cozy resort enjoy a private beach, a heated outdoor pool and a spacious
clubhouse with snack bar and daily 'happy hour.' Motorized boats, kayaks and sailboats
may be rented at the resor ... Read More >>

Bishop's Restaurant (Grand Bahama). For authentic cracked conch, fried grouper and
other delectable home-cooked fare, come to this local favorite outside Freeport, a
fair distance from the hustle and bustle of the all-inclusive resorts.
Mangoes Restaurant (Marsh Harbor). The place to eat when you're staying in Marsh Harbor,
Mangoes makes a mean conch burger on an herb butter bun - and always knows how to
prepare the "catch of the day."
Cable Beach (Nassau). This 2.5-mile stretch of glorious sand is a great place to enjoy
cool breezes and azure ocean waters. And when you're done playing in the water, you
won't have to travel far for golfing, casino gambling and nightlife.
The Dolphin Experience (Freeport). Swim and play with eager dolphins in the open ocean,
as UNEXSO trainers teach you fun facts about these amazing mammals. Small groups ensure
everyone gets a ride and a "kiss."
Take a Powerboat Adventure (Nassau). Hop a powerboat and jet to a remote island location
where you can feed reef sharks, rays and iguanas, go hiking, or hang out on a sandy
Count Basie Square (Grand Bahama). Port Lucaya's entertainment district is constantly
abuzz with festivals, parades, concerts and more. Come for the calypso, or just sit
and watch the yachts roll in.
Grand Bahama's national parks. There are several national parks on Grand Bahama, including
the Lucayan National Park (home to the one of the world's longest cave systems) and
the Rand Nature Center (a bird-watcher's paradise).
Port Lucaya Marketplace (Freeport). This downtown marketplace is open six days a week
and offers everything from high-end jewelry to beauty supplies - and an impressive
and well-stocked straw market.
Marina Village (Paradise Island). Located just a short walk from the Atlantis resort,
Marina Village includes several designer boutique shops that offer high-end fashions
as well as several places to grab lunch, an afternoon snack or a romantic dinner.
International Bazaar (Freeport). Shop the world at the venerable International Bazaar,
located in Freeport's shopping hub near downtown. The bazaar is divided into sections
representing different continents and regions.
