Alto Golf and Country Club

In addition to its challenging 18-hole golf course, designed by legendary British golfer Sir Henry Cotton, the Alto Golf and Country Club gives its guests a choice of two restaurants: Cotton’s Restaurant, where the specialty is flambé, and the more casual Douro Bar and Grill, where fresh local seafood is prepared in an open-air kitchen. The resort offers an indoor pool and a children’s pool, a poolside bar, a gymnasium, tennis, game room, sauna and Jacuzzi. Guests can pamper themselves with a massage or a hairstyling at the resort’s health and beauty salon. Golf instruction is offered at the driving range, and car rentals are available for touring the area by car.

Accommodations at the Alto Golf and Country Club consist of villas, apartments and townhouses, many with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, the golf course or the fabulous gardens. One- and two-bedroom units sleep from four to six people; every unit includes a kitchen, fireplace, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave and telephone.

The stunningly beautiful Alto Golf and Country Club is located in an area of Portugal known as the Algarve, the southwestern-most tip of Europe. The Algarve's attractions include some 100 sandy beaches with non-stop sunshine, international marinas and championship golf courses. A short distance from the coast lie the foothills of the nearby mountains, where the highest peak, Foia, is 2960 feet (902 meters) above sea level. Those mountains are home to lovely little towns where a drive along their narrow roads affords gorgeous scenic views of the area. Other nearby amenities include waterskiing, windsurfing, fishing, horseback riding and a casino.
