This picturesque area of California is known as the "Switzerland of America." Just a half hour's drive east are the famous wineries of Napa Valley. You can go from one to another tasting and learning all there is to know about the fruit of the vine, then board the Napa Valley Wine Train for a scenic journey through the valley. Hot air balloon rides are also popular for breathtaking views of the vineyards. There are soaring glider rides in Middletown and San Francisco is a 31/2-hour drive from this resort. California's own Old Faithful Geyser is an hour's drive as is the Petrified Forest.
